The pelham jawpiece combines the action of a snaffle and a bar and snaffle. The bit has one jaw piece but can be ridden with one or two reins. If you choose to ride with one rein, a pelham strap is needed to connect the bit rings with the rings of the scissors. The pelham is a leveraged mouthpiece. The longer the scissors, the sharper the effect.
The locked mouthpiece resembles a single-jointed bit but cannot fold in half as much as a normal single-jointed bit. Back pressure blocks the bit, turning it into a rod and making it a sharper bit. With less pressure on the reins, the bit changes back to a single-jointed bit.
Sweet iron develops through contact with (air) moisture and surface rust that tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production in a natural way.
